At John Knight Interiors (JKI), we are committed to taking actions that reduce our carbon footprint and, in turn, help our customers reduce theirs. As a major supplier to laboratories across the United Kingdom, we know that we have a role to play in addressing environmental challenges. Our Sustainability and Environmental Policy helps JKI deliver best practice environmental outcomes and provide our customers with innovative solutions.

The JKI Way is the underpinning foundation of our core beliefs and values which guides our decisions and actions.  This includes JKI’s commitment to reducing our environmental impacts while providing superior service and value to our customers.

The Sustainability and Environment Policy sets out JKI’s position on the environment. It covers all JKI’s activities that impact on the environment that we live and work in.

This policy applies to everyone who works at JKI in any capacity, whether full-time, part-time or casual, including temporary employees and contractors.

JKI Sustainability and Environment Policy refers to three distinct areas: Environmental, people and economic.

At JKI we will:

  1. Comply with environmental laws and regulations.
  2. Reduce and cut use of plastics internally and in packaging.
  3. Develop a culture of sustainable environmental management by developing the awareness and involvement of our employees; implementing programs for environmental management and energy reduction.
  4. Share best practices for environmental management and energy efficiency across our Divisions.
  5. Engage with our suppliers, customers and joint venture partners to develop improved environmental sustainability practices.

Sustainable Manufacturing

In line with the UK government’s target to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050, John Knights have introduced our own stringent supply chain policy to ensure that our furniture componentry is sourced from environmentally responsible sources. Our two Propriatory lab furniture systems, Modulab and FUSION2, are both propriatory systems manufactured under license in the UK which gives us total control of the sourcing of raw materials and componentry. A list of key components and supporting Environmental Accreditations follows, giving you peace of mind that your Lab furniture has had a positive impact on the environment.

Trespa Worktops

The majority of our Lab worktops are manufactured from Trespa compact grade HPL (High Pressure Laminate), a durable and chemical resistant surface that is perfectly suited to scientific environments. Trespa is manufactured in the Netherlands by Trespa International BV, who carry ISO9001, ISO14001, PEFC, and FSC accreditations. They are also launching their Trespa Second Life Programme where old Trespa panels will be reused rather than discarded as waste.

Wood Laminates

Selected for their superior durability, we use laminates on our Lab doors and panels which carry the FSC certification.

Lab Taps

Produced from solid brass componentry, our lab taps are produced in a LEED certified factory (which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The long working lifetime of these taps also contributes to their superior sustainability.

Metal Bench Frames

Our Modulab bench frames are sourced locally from a fabricator with their own in-house finishing shop, reducing transport and thereby reducing their carbon footprint. The factory’s environmental programme includes producing 30% of their energy from solar panels, and recycling a high percentage of waste metal.
